Unemployment Jumps in Carroll County

Carroll County Unemployment Rate Jumps to 6.5% for May 2009

Despite maintaining lower unemployment rates than Maryland and the national average, Carroll County registered an unemployment rate of 6.5% for May 2009, according to figures released by the Carroll County Government. This was a jump of .6 % from April 2009's 5.9% unemployment rate for Carroll County.  The unmployed ranks swelled from 5,499 to 6,007 out of a labor force of 92,861.

Even though the unemployment numbers grew, they are still considerably less than the Maryland unemployment rate of 7.1% and the national rate of 9.1% for the same period.
